Abstract
Timing and indications to reverse anticoagulation therapy in patients admitted to the hospital for emergency neurological problems is a challenging task that both neuro-intensivists and ED physicians are encountering with the increased age of the population and the higher prevalence of patients receiving long-term anticoagulation for different reasons. We aim to provide an evidence-based overview of the main questions and controversies related to the main anticoagulants and in particular to the new oral anticoagulants and their reversal. We also provided some schemes and recommendations on how to reverse the anticoagulants based on the different risks and conditions of the patient at admission.
