Abstract
Proteomic tools have revolutionized the modern molecular sciences and have gained a special position in the field of cancer research. Advanced proteomic tools have identified several novel proteins and peptides and unraveled their basic pathways leading to cancer growth and metastasis. The success of treating cancers directly depends on how early they are detected. Proteomics have allowed researchers to identify and characterize novel predictive biomarkers that occur in the early phases of tumorigenesis, thus presenting valuable source for cancer therapeutic targets. Importantly, the integration of proteomics studies with other omics is providing extensive data related to molecular mechanisms and target modulators. In this chapter, we aim to provide an overview of cancer proteomics and recent advances made in the proteomic tools that have paved way to discover new therapeutic targets in various carcinomas.
