Abstract
The complex interaction between antibiotics and gut microbiota (GM), as well as its substantial influence on intestinal wellness, is a crucial field of research. This chapter traverses the complex topography of the GM, stressing its essential function in preserving health and the unexpected repercussions of antibiotic therapies. Investigating the richness and complexities of GM, we reveal its varied activities in digestion, nutritional absorption, and immune system regulation, highlighting the fragile equilibrium required for health. We categorize frequently used antibiotics in intestinal infections, examining their wide-ranging vs. narrow-spectrum patterns as we delve into the principles of antibiotic effect. A thorough analysis demonstrates collateral harm to non-target microbes, notably the GM, resulting in dysbiosis with modified variety and density. We analyze the complicated relationships between GM and inflammatory bowel disorders (IBD), demonstrating antibiotic-mediated alterations as possible drivers for intestinal illness. The application of probiotics, prebiotics, and transplantation of feces microbiota are among the options proposed in this chapter to offset these adverse consequences during inflammatory therapy. In the future, we will investigate treatment options such as creating targeted antibiotics and tailored medical tactics, to minimize their effects on specific microbiota compositions. The chapter’s prospective objectives and difficulties highlight the importance of progress toward comprehending these intricate relationships, ethical issues in antibiotic usage, and the continuous search for appropriate treatment strategies. As we uncover these, our research sets the path for novel techniques to maximize antibiotic usage while protecting the sensitive environment.
