Abstract

Hydrogels have attracted great research interest in soft bioelectronics applications. Owing to the soft, wet, porous, and tissue-like structure, hydrogels can serve as a seamless bridge between rigid electronic components and soft tissues, thus reconciling the mechanical and electrical interfacial mismatch. Hydrogels with multi-functionality can serve as conformal platforms for bioelectronic interfacing with the human body in applications such as electronic skin, implantable devices, and tissue engineering, for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. In this chapter, we discuss the recent progress in the development of hydrogel materials and devices for bioelectronics applications. We also highlight their potential integration in wearable and implantable bioelectronics, as well as in tissue engineering.
