Abstract

This article describes a novel method for interpreting sketches. This method is based on a breadth-first competitive analysis of the analysis tree. In contrast to well-known structural approaches, this method enables the simultaneous evaluation of multiple possible recognition hypotheses within the dynamic local context of a document. The decision process selects the best hypotheses at each stage of the analysis. This article demonstrates this novel approach to mathematical expression recognition.
