Rafiq Hijazi has a PhD in Statistics from the American University, Washington, DC. He has over 25 years of teaching experience mostly in United Arab Emirates where he served at United Arab Emirates University (2003-2012) and Al Ain University (2012-2019) prior to joining Zayed University in 2019. Over his academic career, he has led and participated in local and international accreditation and program and curriculum development efforts. He has been involved in many interdisciplinary research projects about UAE on labor market, higher education, financial institutions, and public health. His research interests include compositional data analysis, applied statistics, and statistics education in the Arab World.

Research interests

My research endeavors span across a diverse array of topics within the realm of applied statistics, with notable contributions in Compositional Data Analysis. Moreover, I have actively engaged in collaborative research projects in economics, finance, higher education, and public health. Over the past few years, I have extended my research to include the pedagogical theme on promoting statistics education and the statistics profession in the region. In terms of research activities, I have published numerous manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings and presented my work at local, regional and international conferences. At the professional level, I am a member in the American Statistical Association (ASA), International Statistical Institute (ISI), International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG), CoDa-Association, and The International Association for Statistical Education (IASE).
