Maria João Figueiras, Clinical Health Psychologist (specialist), Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Kings College (University of London), Master's in Health Psychology (United Medical and Dental Schools- University of London), bachelor's in clinical psychology (ISPA-IU, Portugal). She also has a specialty in Psychotherapy and is a registered Europsy Psychologist. Full Professor of Clinical Health Psychology (with Habilitation) and researcher, currently teaches at Zayed University, Department of Psychology, College of Health and Natural Sciences, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She is an active member of the research community. Develops Social and Human Sciences research with an emphasis on Clinical Health Psychology. Her work has contributed significantly to the field and has impacted the lives of individuals adjusting to chronic illnesses. She received four research awards. She has collaborated with several higher education institutions. She was President of the Portuguese Association of Health and Behavioral Sciences (2015-2019) and has been a full member of the European Health Psychology Society since 1994. Between 2001 and 2014, she was awarded four research grants funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and coordinated the research projects in cooperation with other entities. She has publications in scientific journals, written several book chapters, has been a consultant for international research projects, participated in several scientific committees of national and international conferences, and has been an invited speaker in several seminars, workshops, and national and international conferences.
