Dr. Munawwar Ali Khan is a Professor in the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (LES), College of Natural and Health Sciences at Zayed University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He received Ph.D. in 2001 in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. His research interests are in environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, and biotechnology. His specific focus is on applying traditional and advanced molecular techniques to explore microbial communities in natural and engineered ecosystems such as wastewater treatment, anaerobic digesters, and marine and soil environments. He also applies molecular and metagenomics tools to monitor antibiotic-resistant bacteria in water, recycled wastewater, marine water, food, and soil ecosystems.
