Ms. Ayesha Rifath obtained her BSc degree with Honors in Biomedical Sciences (BBMS) from GMU in 2018. Her passion for research began with her undergraduate research project studying the effects of waterpipe smoking on oral mucosa cells. She presented this work at the 6th Undergraduate Research Competition at Abu Dhabi University in 2018. She subsequently interned at the Thumbay Diagnostic Labs in Dubai and in Ajman. In 2019 she joined the Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine (TRIPM) as a Research Intern. Her work focused on understanding the effects of hypoxic stress as well as the effects of waterpipe smoke on the molecular changes underlying cancer progression. Currently as a Research Assistant at TRIPM, Ayesha is in charge of the newly developing Zebrafish facility. This facility is key to TRIPM research as it offers opportunities to study cancer cell metastasis and to screen anti-cancer drugs under in vivo conditions.
